1. Foundation Laid for Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant laid the foundation stone for the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy at Amaravati on 1 March 2026.
The academy is proposed on approximately 4.83 acres at Pitchikalapalem with an approved cost of nearly ₹165 crore.
The planned institution will have facilities for about 120 trainee judges, accommodation for nearly 60 staff members and a 500-seat auditorium.
The project is intended to provide continuing legal education, judicial training, research facilities and professional-development programmes for judges and court personnel.
Foundation stones were also laid for a Judges’ Guest House, while a newly constructed residential complex for High Court judges was inaugurated during the programme.

2. Andhra Pradesh Unveils Tourism Investment Roadmap

పర్యాటక పెట్టుబడుల మార్గపటాన్ని ప్రకటించిన ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్

The Andhra Pradesh government presented its tourism-development and investment roadmap in the Legislative Assembly on 4 March 2026.
Under the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Policy 2024–29, tourism projects were granted industrial status to improve access to incentives and approvals.
The government stated that 117 memorandums of understanding worth approximately ₹19,693 crore had been signed during the preceding 20 months.
Of these proposals, 27 projects received State Investment Promotion Board approval, with an estimated potential to create about 1.22 lakh jobs.
Tourism projects valued at nearly ₹6,681 crore were reported to be under implementation, while approvals had been issued for approximately 5,232 branded hotel rooms.
The State set a target of developing 50,000 quality hotel rooms and more than 25 thematic tourism circuits.

దాదాపు ₹6,681 కోట్ల విలువైన పర్యాటక ప్రాజెక్టులు అమలు దశలో ఉండగా, సుమారు 5,232 బ్రాండెడ్ హోటల్ గదులకు అనుమతులు ఇచ్చారు.
రాష్ట్రంలో 50,000 నాణ్యమైన హోటల్ గదులు, 25కు పైగా ప్రత్యేక పర్యాటక సర్క్యూట్లను అభివృద్ధి చేయాలని లక్ష్యంగా నిర్ణయించారు.

3. Universal Healthcare Policy Announced

సార్వత్రిక ఆరోగ్య సంరక్షణ విధానం ప్రకటన

The Andhra Pradesh government outlined a universal healthcare policy in the Legislative Assembly on 4 March 2026.
The policy proposed free medical treatment of up to ₹2.5 lakh for every eligible citizen, irrespective of income classification.
The government also proposed establishing a 100-bed hospital in every Assembly constituency to improve access to secondary and specialist care.
The Sanjeevani digital-health programme is intended to create electronic health records and support early diagnosis, preventive care and technology-based monitoring.
New medical colleges proposed under public-private partnerships will remain government-owned, while private partners may participate in construction and management.
The policy is intended to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenditure and improve access to healthcare in rural and underserved areas.

4. Shipbuilding Park SPV Approved at Dugarajapatnam

దుగరాజపట్నంలో నౌకా నిర్మాణ పార్కు ప్రత్యేక సంస్థకు ఆమోదం

On 5 March 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government approved the creation of a special-purpose vehicle for developing a major shipbuilding and heavy-industries park at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district.
The proposed entity, National Ship Building and Heavy Industries Park Andhra Pradesh Limited, will be jointly owned in a 50:50 ratio by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board and Visakhapatnam Port Authority.
The project is estimated to require approximately ₹29,662 crore and around 2,000 acres of land.
The proposed park will include four dry docks, ship-lift facilities, repair infrastructure and an estimated shipbuilding capacity of 1.2 million gross tonnes per annum.
Supporting and ancillary industries are expected to attract an additional ₹8,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore in investments.
The project is intended to develop Andhra Pradesh as an important centre for ship construction, repair, marine engineering and port-led manufacturing.

5. Heatwave Warning and Summer Action Plan Introduced

On 5 March 2026, the India Meteorological Department warned that several parts of Andhra Pradesh could experience above-normal temperatures during the March–May summer season.
Central Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh were identified as areas likely to experience higher temperatures and warm nights.
The State government subsequently introduced the Summer Action Plan 2026 on 14 March 2026 to reduce heat-related illness and mortality.
The AWARE system will provide heatwave warnings approximately four to five days in advance to district administrations and the public.
Primary Health Centres, government hospitals and 108 ambulance services were directed to maintain medicines, oral rehydration salts and emergency-treatment arrangements.
The plan also includes training for health workers, public drinking-water facilities, awareness campaigns and monitoring of seasonal diseases.

6. Andhra Pradesh Records Highest-Ever Daily Power Demand

Andhra Pradesh recorded its highest-ever daily electricity demand of approximately 274 million units on 7 March 2026.
The increase was attributed mainly to rising summer temperatures, agricultural demand and higher domestic consumption.
Energy officials estimated that peak demand could reach nearly 280 million units per day during May 2026.
The Energy Department reviewed power availability, transmission capacity, coal stocks and arrangements for purchasing additional electricity.
Distribution companies were directed to maintain uninterrupted supply and respond quickly to transformer failures and local outages.

7. New Pattadar Passbooks Distributed to Farmers

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu distributed new pattadar passbooks to farmers at Kothaburju village in Dhone mandal of Nandyal district on 9 March 2026.
The redesigned passbooks carry the official State emblem and updated land-ownership information.
The initiative is intended to improve the accuracy of land records, reduce disputes and help farmers access bank loans and government schemes.
During the programme, the government announced that approximately ₹4,000 crore would be spent on Panchayat Raj road development across the State.
Farmers were also encouraged to adopt water conservation, protective cultivation and high-value crops to improve agricultural income.

8. Anantapur Tops Andhra Pradesh in Micro-Irrigation

Anantapur district emerged as Andhra Pradesh’s leading district in micro-irrigation implementation during 2025–26, according to figures reported on 10 March 2026.
Against a target of 18,000 hectares, micro-irrigation systems were sanctioned across approximately 19,573 hectares.
Nearly 15,135 farmers received approval for drip-irrigation or sprinkler-irrigation equipment.
The total programme cost was approximately ₹188.19 crore, including a government subsidy of about ₹160.99 crore.
Farmers contributed nearly ₹27.20 crore toward the equipment and installation costs.
The district proposed extending micro-irrigation to an additional 4,000 hectares to conserve water in the drought-prone region.

9. Andhra Pradesh Placed in Aspirational Category in Fiscal Health Index

ఆర్థిక ఆరోగ్య సూచీలో ఆకాంక్షిత రాష్ట్రాల విభాగంలో ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్

NITI Aayog released the Fiscal Health Index 2026 on 11 March 2026, assessing the financial condition of major Indian states.
Andhra Pradesh ranked 17th among 18 major states, with an overall score of 23.1, and was placed in the Aspirational category.
The assessment used fiscal data for 2023–24, when Andhra Pradesh’s fiscal deficit was approximately ₹62,720 crore, equivalent to about 4.35% of GSDP.
The State’s revenue deficit during the assessment year was approximately ₹38,683 crore, or about 2.68% of GSDP.
The report highlighted persistent revenue deficits, rising liabilities and limited own-revenue capacity as important challenges.
The index underlined the need for improved expenditure quality, debt management and stronger mobilisation of the State’s own tax and non-tax revenue.

10. National Lok Adalat Settles Nearly 2.95 Lakh Cases

జాతీయ లోక్ అదాలత్‌లో సుమారు 2.95 లక్షల కేసుల పరిష్కారం

The National Lok Adalat conducted across Andhra Pradesh on 14 March 2026 settled approximately 2,95,182 cases.
Nearly 400 Lok Adalat benches were constituted in different courts across the State.
The resolved matters included about 2,86,414 pending court cases and 8,589 pre-litigation cases.
Compensation and settlement awards totalling approximately ₹87.35 crore were granted.
The Visakhapatnam Debt Recovery Tribunal–II separately resolved 21 cases involving settlements of nearly ₹21.15 crore.
Lok Adalats provide speedy, low-cost and mutually agreed dispute resolution, and their awards have the force of a civil-court decree.

11. Dedicated Backward Classes Protection Act Proposed

Backward Classes Welfare Minister S. Savitha announced on 15 March 2026 that Andhra Pradesh proposed introducing a dedicated law for the protection of Backward Classes.
The State government described the proposed legislation as the first specialised BC Protection Act of its kind in India.
The proposal is intended to provide stronger legal safeguards against discrimination, intimidation, violence and denial of lawful rights.
The announcement was a policy proposal in March 2026 and had not yet become an enacted law.
Detailed provisions were expected to be finalised after consultations and completion of the legislative process.

12. Fifty Percent Interest Waiver on Property-Tax Arrears

On 18 March 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government announced a one-time 50% waiver on accumulated interest relating to property-tax arrears.
The concession applied to taxpayers in all municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats for the 2025–26 financial year.
To receive the benefit, taxpayers were required to pay the entire principal amount and the remaining 50% of interest in a single payment.
The final date for availing the concession was fixed as 31 March 2026, with the government stating that no extension would be granted.
Payments could be made through municipal counters, online portals and digital public-service platforms such as Mana Mitra and PuraMitra.
Taxpayers who had already paid the full interest were not eligible for a refund.

13. ₹226.61 Crore Released for Polavaram Displaced Families

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released the third instalment of rehabilitation compensation for Polavaram Project-displaced families on 18 March 2026.
A total of approximately ₹226.61 crore was transferred to eligible project-affected families.
The assistance formed part of the rehabilitation and resettlement package for people displaced by the multipurpose irrigation project.
The government stated that completing rehabilitation, housing and livelihood support would remain a priority along with the construction of the project.
Polavaram is designed to provide irrigation, drinking water, hydropower generation and inter-basin water transfer benefits.

14. Unseasonal Rain Damages Crops in Rayalaseema

Unseasonal rainfall and strong winds during the third week of March 2026 damaged agricultural and horticultural crops in Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts.
Banana, mango, sweet orange, papaya, drumstick, tomato and maize were among the affected crops.
In Sri Sathya Sai district, preliminary assessments identified damage across approximately 415 hectares, affecting around 363 farmers.
The preliminary loss in Sri Sathya Sai district was estimated at approximately ₹3.19 crore.
Anantapur district reported crop damage across more than 100 hectares, with field-level assessments continuing.
Agriculture and horticulture officials were directed to complete enumeration and identify eligible farmers for relief.

The project is being developed by the PVR Group with a proposed investment of approximately ₹250 crore.

16. ₹59.85 Crore Approved for Compressed Biogas Plants

The Andhra Pradesh government granted administrative approval on 22 March 2026 for establishing and upgrading five compressed-biogas plants.
The total approved project cost was approximately ₹59.85 crore.
New plants were proposed at Rajamahendravaram, Nellore, Guntur and Ongole, while the existing Vijayawada facility would be revived and upgraded.
Each plant is planned with a processing capacity of approximately 25 tonnes per day, giving a combined capacity of 125 tonnes per day.
Technical support will be provided by the CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, while the Swachh Andhra Corporation will serve as the nodal agency.
The plants will convert segregated municipal organic waste into clean fuel, helping reduce landfill waste and methane emissions.

17. Foundation Laid for AM/NS Integrated Steel Plant

The foundation stone for the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India integrated steel plant was laid in Anakapalli district on 23 March 2026.
The first phase involves an investment of approximately ₹70,000 crore and a proposed production capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per annum.
Commercial production from the first phase is targeted for the first quarter of 2029.
The second phase is expected to increase total capacity to approximately 17.8 million tonnes per annum.
Total investment across the two phases is projected at nearly ₹1.35 lakh crore.
The completed project and its associated industries are expected to generate close to one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The Tobacco Board scheduled auctions in phases to manage arrivals and ensure orderly marketing across different cultivation regions.
Additional platforms in the Southern Light Soils and Southern Black Soils regions were scheduled to begin auctions from 9 April 2026.
The wider auction programme covered tobacco-growing areas in Prakasam, SPSR Nellore and the Godavari districts.

19. No Electricity Tariff Hike for 2026–27

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission released the retail electricity tariff order for 2026–27 on 25 March 2026.
The Commission announced that there would be no tariff increase for any consumer category during the financial year.
Distribution companies had projected a revenue gap of approximately ₹17,508.17 crore, while the Commission approved a gap of about ₹15,790.57 crore.
The State government agreed to provide the required subsidy support to avoid transferring the approved gap to consumers.
Around 1.13 crore domestic consumers and nearly 22 lakh agricultural consumers were expected to benefit from the decision.
The commercial tariff was reduced from approximately ₹12.25 to ₹9.95 per unit, benefiting nearly two lakh commercial consumers.

Approximately 174 undergraduate and postgraduate medals and 437 academic prizes were presented.
Telugu writer and environmentalist Thallavajhula Patanjali Sastry received an honorary doctorate.
The university’s principal centenary celebrations were scheduled from 26 March to 26 April 2026.

22. Ten Thousand Homestays Planned Across Andhra Pradesh

During a tourism-sector review held on 25 March 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government proposed developing 10,000 homestays across the State.
The government retained its target of creating nearly 50,000 quality hotel rooms by 2029.
Caravan parks were proposed at approximately 10 to 15 tourism locations, with a target of introducing around 1,000 tents and caravan units before the Godavari Pushkarams.
Beach tourism is to be expanded along the coast from Baruva to Nellore, while eco-tourism circuits will focus on Araku, Maredumilli and Chintapalli.
Water-aerodrome proposals include Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Srisailam, Gandikota and Kambham Cheruvu.
Cruise-tourism services were also proposed from Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam ports.

23. Fatal Private-Bus Fire Near Markapuram

The bus was travelling from Jagtial in Telangana toward Kaligiri in SPSR Nellore district.
Initial official reports recorded at least 13 deaths and 22 injuries, though casualty figures remained subject to further verification.
Emergency services, police, fire personnel and medical teams carried out rescue and relief operations.
The State announced assistance of ₹5 lakh for the families of deceased persons and ₹2 lakh for seriously injured passengers.
The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund separately announced ₹2 lakh for each deceased person’s family and ₹50,000 for injured passengers.

24. Assembly Passes Resolution Seeking Statutory Status for Amaravati

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on 28 March 2026 seeking explicit statutory recognition of Amaravati as the State capital.
The resolution requested the Union Government to amend Section 5(2) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 by incorporating Amaravati’s name.
The government argued that naming Amaravati in the central law would provide long-term legal certainty and prevent future disputes over the capital.
Members stated that the resolution would strengthen investor confidence and support the continued development of capital-region infrastructure.
At the end of March 2026, the proposal still required legislative action by Parliament before acquiring central statutory force.

25. More Than 2.5 Lakh Houses Distributed to Beneficiaries

The Andhra Pradesh government distributed approximately 2,50,983 completed houses to beneficiaries at programmes held across the State on 30 March 2026.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu participated in the principal programme at Naidupeta in Tirupati district.
The distributed houses included units constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and TIDCO urban-housing programmes.
Approximately 15,659 houses were distributed in Tirupati district alone.
The government announced a target of completing and handing over an additional 4.5 lakh houses by December 2026.
New houses are proposed to receive solar-power systems under PM Surya Ghar, along with energy-efficient appliances where applicable.
The State stated that approximately 5.5 lakh houses had been completed during the preceding 21 months and set a broader target of eliminating homelessness among poor families by 2029.
