Andhra Pradesh ranked first among Indian states in terms of proposed capital investments during the first nine months of the 2025–26 financial year.
The findings, which received wide attention in January 2026, were based on an assessment of investment announcements across India.
Andhra Pradesh accounted for 25.3% of the total proposed investments announced in the country.
Odisha stood second with a share of 13.1%, while Maharashtra recorded 12.8%.
Telangana accounted for 9.5%, and Gujarat registered a share of 7.1%.
The total value of new investment proposals announced across India was approximately ₹26.62 lakh crore.
Based on its percentage share, the value of proposed investments connected with Andhra Pradesh was approximately ₹6.73 lakh crore.
The ranking highlighted the growing importance of Andhra Pradesh as a destination for industrial, energy, infrastructure and technology investments.

2. Mental-Health Programme for Medical Students

వైద్య విద్యార్థుల కోసం మానసిక ఆరోగ్య కార్యక్రమం

On 3 January 2026, a structured mental-health and suicide-prevention programme was announced for medical students in Andhra Pradesh.
Dr NTR University of Health Sciences entered into an agreement with the Question, Persuade, Refer Institute India at Vijayawada.
The programme will initially cover first-year MBBS students belonging to the 2025–26 academic batch.
Students studying in government and private medical colleges affiliated with the university will be included.
Training will focus on emotional resilience, stress management, early identification of suicidal tendencies and timely referral to mental-health professionals.
The programme will also train students and faculty members to recognise warning signs among their classmates and colleagues.
The university decided to bear the programme expenditure for students studying in affiliated private medical colleges.
The initiative was introduced in response to growing concern over stress, anxiety and mental-health disorders among medical students.

3. ₹128.33 Crore Compensation Paid to Onion Farmers

ఉల్లి రైతులకు ₹128.33 కోట్ల పరిహారం

On 4 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government announced that ₹128.33 crore had been credited to onion farmers affected by crop losses.
The financial assistance benefited 37,752 farmers in Kurnool and Kadapa districts.
The farmers suffered losses because of unseasonal rainfall that damaged standing onion crops.
Compensation was calculated at the rate of ₹50,000 per hectare.
In Kurnool district alone, ₹99.92 crore was credited to 31,352 farmers.
Agriculture, Marketing and Animal Husbandry Minister K. Atchannaidu announced the details at a programme held in Kodumuru.
The assistance was transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers.
The measure was intended to provide immediate financial relief and help affected farmers prepare for the next agricultural season.

4. Vadde Obanna Jayanti Declared a State Festival

In January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government decided to officially celebrate Vadde Obanna Jayanti as a State festival.
The Jayanti will be observed every year on 11 January.
Celebrations were planned at all district headquarters, with the main State-level programme to be organised in Anantapur.
The Backward Classes Welfare Department was assigned responsibility for coordinating the official programmes.
Vadde Obanna was a warrior from the Renati region who participated in the anti-British resistance led by Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy.
His involvement in the resistance occurred before the Revolt of 1857.
The decision provided official recognition to his role in the freedom struggle and to the historical contribution of the Vaddera community.

5. ONGC Mori-5 Well Fire in Konaseema

A major fire broke out at the ONGC Mori-5 well in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on 5 January 2026.
The incident occurred during repair and workover operations at the gas well.
Flames reportedly rose to nearly 20 metres, creating concern among residents of nearby villages.
More than 500 residents from Irusumanda and Mori villages were shifted to safer locations.
ONGC’s Crisis Management Team, technical experts and personnel from the operating contractor participated in the control operation.
By 8 January 2026, nearly 90% of the fire had been brought under control.
Air quality and nearby water sources were monitored within a radius of approximately 600 metres from the well.
Authorities also began assessing reported damage to paddy and coconut crops in the surrounding area.

6. Great Green Wall and 50% Green-Cover Programmes Accelerated

On 6 January 2026, Deputy Chief Minister and Forest and Environment Minister Pawan Kalyan reviewed the State’s major afforestation programmes.
Officials were directed to accelerate the Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh and the programme aimed at achieving 50% green cover.
The Forest Department was asked to prepare a detailed implementation route map by the end of January 2026.
Andhra Pradesh has a coastline of approximately 974 km, making coastal green belts important for cyclone and erosion protection.
Dense coastal plantations extending up to 5 km in width were proposed in suitable locations.
Plantation activities were already progressing along a coastal stretch of approximately 402 km.
Satellite surveys identified nearly 10,000 acres of mangrove forests that had not yet received formal notification.
The programme aims to improve biodiversity, reduce coastal erosion, lessen cyclone impact and increase the overall green cover of the State.

7. Five Land Categories Removed from Section 22-A List

సెక్షన్ 22-ఏ జాబితా నుంచి ఐదు రకాల భూముల తొలగింపు

On 7 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government announced the removal of five categories of land from the prohibited-property list maintained under Section 22-A of the Registration Act.
The decision covered specified lands allotted to serving and former defence personnel.
Lands connected with freedom fighters and certain old assigned lands were also included in the relaxation.
Assigned lands issued before 18 June 1954 were among the categories considered for removal.
Eligible private-patta lands that had remained in the prohibited list because of old or incorrect entries were also covered.
The reform was intended to assist genuine owners who were unable to register or transfer their properties.
Eligible cases will still be subject to verification by the Revenue and Registration departments.
Removal from the prohibited list enables lawful registration, sale, inheritance and other property-related transactions.

8. MBBS Admissions Approved at Piduguralla Medical College

పిడుగురాళ్ల ప్రభుత్వ వైద్య కళాశాలలో ఎంబీబీఎస్ ప్రవేశాలకు అనుమతి

On 8 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government approved the commencement of MBBS admissions at Piduguralla Government Medical College.
Admissions are expected to begin from the 2026–27 academic year.
The college will initially offer 100 MBBS seats.
The intake may be increased after the completion of additional academic and hospital infrastructure.
The Union Government released ₹195 crore under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for construction and operational requirements.
A 420-bed teaching hospital is required to support an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
The State sanctioned the recruitment of 237 doctors and other employees for the medical college.
Recruitment of nearly 600 personnel was also proposed for the associated teaching hospital.

9. Nine Khelo India Projects Sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌కు తొమ్మిది ఖేలో ఇండియా ప్రాజెక్టులు

On 8 January 2026, nine new sports-infrastructure projects were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh under the Khelo India programme.
The combined sanctioned value of the projects was approximately ₹74.76 crore.
Five projects were approved for the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada.
The Vijayawada works included floodlights, a synthetic athletic track, an artificial-grass football field, a tennis court and a basketball court.
Multipurpose indoor sports facilities were sanctioned at Kuppam, Rajamahendravaram, Guntur and Pathrunivalasa in Srikakulam district.
Multipurpose halls at Kuppam, Guntur and Pathrunivalasa received approvals of ₹14 crore each.
The Rajamahendravaram indoor facility received a sanction of approximately ₹13.76 crore.
The projects were at the sanction or initial stage in January 2026 and had not yet been completed.

కుప్పం, గుంటూరు, పాతృనివలసలోని బహుళ ప్రయోజన హాళ్లకు ఒక్కో ప్రాజెక్టుకు ₹14 కోట్లు మంజూరయ్యాయి.
రాజమహేంద్రవరం ఇండోర్ క్రీడా సదుపాయానికి సుమారు ₹13.76 కోట్లు మంజూరు చేశారు.
2026 జనవరి నాటికి ఈ ప్రాజెక్టులు మంజూరు లేదా ప్రారంభ దశలోనే ఉన్నాయి; పనులు పూర్తికాలేదు.

10. Amaravati–Avakai Festival Held in Vijayawada

The Amaravati–Avakai Festival 2026 was held at Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Island in Vijayawada from 8 to 10 January 2026.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the festival on 8 January 2026.

Traditional food products, including varieties of Andhra pickles, were displayed during the programme.
Cultural performances, literary discussions, cinema-related events and tourism activities formed part of the festival.
The programme was organised as a public cultural and tourism initiative with free entry for visitors.
Representatives from the State government, tourism sector and international diplomatic community participated.
The government proposed developing the programme as an annual flagship cultural festival of Andhra Pradesh.

The second AP Digital Technology Summit and the first AP Innovators Summit began in Visakhapatnam on 9 January 2026.
The events were organised by the AP Digital Technology Industry Network with support from the State government.
Software Technology Parks of India also supported the organisation of the summits.
The theme of the programme was “Beyond Automation: The Intelligent Era.”
Discussions focused on artificial intelligence, cloud-native technology, cybersecurity, Global Capability Centres and intelligent automation.
Two investment agreements were signed under the STPI SAMRIDH 2.0 programme to assist technology startups.
Matching funding of approximately ₹30 lakh was announced in connection with two autonomous-drone startups.
More than 800 participants attended the opening-day sessions.

12. ₹100.28 Crore Sanctioned for Rural Roads in Srikakulam

On 13 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department sanctioned ₹100.28 crore for rural-road works in Srikakulam district.
The package covered 66 road works across eight Assembly constituencies.
Approximately 212 km of rural roads were included in the programme.
The proposed works included bituminous roads, cement-concrete roads, gravel roads and water-bound macadam roads.
The projects were sanctioned under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment.
The road works are expected to improve connectivity between villages, mandal headquarters, markets, schools and health facilities.
Tender procedures were being taken up in January 2026.
The sanction represented approval and funding allocation; all 66 works had not yet been completed.

13. Citizens Allowed to Report Disease Outbreaks Through IHIP

On 15 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health Department introduced a citizen-based disease-reporting mechanism through the Integrated Health Information Platform.
Citizens can report suspected clusters of infectious diseases and public-health emergencies.
Reports may include information about diarrhoea, vomiting, waterborne illnesses and similar health problems.
Residents can also upload photographs and location-related details through the platform.
Submitted alerts are shared with Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, Primary Health Centre doctors and district health officials.
State-level health authorities can monitor the reports and direct immediate field investigation.
The facility forms part of the national disease-surveillance system.
The objective is to identify outbreaks early, reduce reporting delays and begin preventive action before diseases spread widely.

14. Foundation Laid for AM Green Complex in Kakinada

The foundation stone for the AM Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Complex was laid in Kakinada on 17 January 2026.
The announced investment value of the project was approximately ₹83,000 crore, equivalent to nearly US$10 billion.
The complex is planned across approximately 495 acres.
The existing Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals facility is proposed to be converted into a green-energy production centre.
The project aims to achieve a green-ammonia capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
Intermediate production targets include 0.5 million tonnes by 2027 and one million tonnes by 2028.
The project includes renewable-energy generation, pumped-hydro storage, green-hydrogen production and 1,950 MW of electrolyser capacity.
Up to 8,000 employment opportunities are expected during the construction phase.

Penugonda has a strong religious and cultural association with Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari.
The State government had recognised the town under the name Vasavi Penugonda.

During the World Economic Forum 2026 at Davos, Andhra Pradesh discussed the establishment of a UAE-supported food-processing cluster.
On approximately 21 January 2026, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held discussions with UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri.
The proposed cluster is intended to expand food-processing capacity in Andhra Pradesh.
It is expected to strengthen agricultural value chains and improve market opportunities for farmers.
The proposal also aims to support food security, exports, cold-chain facilities and employment generation.
Nearly 40 UAE-based businesses reportedly expressed interest in logistics, port handling and associated infrastructure.
Discussions also covered multimodal logistics parks, modern construction facilities and port-related investments.
The proposals were at the discussion and investment-commitment stage and had not yet become fully operational projects.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the initiative.
The project covered the boys’ and girls’ Social Welfare Hostel facilities at Nagari.
The Net-Zero concept promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmentally responsible use of resources.
Hostel infrastructure and student amenities were upgraded as part of the programme.
Measures were introduced to reduce electricity consumption and minimise the environmental impact of the institution.
The initiative is expected to serve as a pilot model for government hostels and other public buildings.
The programme combines student welfare with clean-energy and sustainable-development objectives.

20. HNSS Lifts More Than 40 TMC of Water in Record Time

By 26 January 2026, the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project had lifted 40.31 TMC of water within 190 days.
The achievement was described as the fastest 40-TMC lifting operation in the project’s history.
Pumping for the water year began from the Srisailam backwaters through the Malyala Pump House.
Of the total water lifted, 38.74 TMC reached the boundary of the erstwhile Anantapur district.
Approximately 1.57 TMC was utilised in the erstwhile Kurnool district.
During 2021–22, the project required nearly 265 days to lift approximately 40.01 TMC.
Canal-carrying capacity increased from around 2,200 cusecs to 3,850 cusecs after widening and improvement works.
Officials set a further target of lifting 50 TMC by the end of February or early March 2026.

21. Scientific SOP Introduced for Cleaning Urban Drains

On 27 January 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government introduced a scientific Standard Operating Procedure for de-siltation and cleaning of urban drains.
The procedure applies to nalas, stormwater drains and drainage channels maintained by Urban Local Bodies.
Drains will be categorised as minor, medium, major and natural channels.
Separate cleaning and maintenance schedules will be prepared for each category.
The system provides for GIS-based inventories and digital mapping of urban drainage networks.
Mechanised cleaning and protective equipment for sanitation workers have been emphasised.
The procedure also includes citizen participation, penalties for illegal dumping and accountability for municipal officials.
Urban Local Bodies were instructed to complete pre-monsoon de-silting within prescribed timelines.

22. Andhra Pradesh Crosses One Crore iGOT Karmayogi Enrolments

On 28 January 2026, Andhra Pradesh became the first State to cross one crore course enrolments on the iGOT Karmayogi platform.
The State also crossed 80 lakh course completions on the platform.
The programme is implemented in Andhra Pradesh through the Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society.
It forms part of Mission Karmayogi, the national capacity-building programme for government employees.
Training areas include public-service delivery, ethical leadership, digital literacy, e-governance and communication.
Courses also cover cybersecurity, policing, crisis management and citizen-centric administration.
The milestone represents cumulative course enrolments and completions, not the number of unique employees.
The achievement highlighted the State’s emphasis on continuous learning and capacity development in public administration.

23. Public-Awareness Campaign Planned for Census 2027

2027 జనగణనపై ప్రజా అవగాహన కార్యక్రమం

On 29 January 2026, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand directed district collectors to begin public-awareness activities for the 2027 Census.
State Census Director J. Nivas was asked to prepare Information, Education and Communication material for all districts.
The Census exercise will be conducted in two major phases.
The first phase will cover the House Listing and Housing Census.
The second phase will involve the Population Enumeration.
District collectors will function as principal census officers in their respective districts.
Municipal commissioners will supervise census activities in municipal-corporation areas.
Government employees, teachers and local-body personnel will be trained and deployed as enumerators and supervisors.

24. Andhra Pradesh Day Celebrated at Bharat Parv 2026

On 30 January 2026, Andhra Pradesh Day was celebrated at Bharat Parv 2026 at the Red Fort in New Delhi.
Bharat Parv was organised as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
The programme promoted the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
The Andhra Pradesh pavilion showcased the State’s tourism destinations, handlooms, handicrafts and cultural heritage.
Traditional Andhra food and regional artistic forms were presented to visitors.
A Kuchipudi classical-dance presentation involving 46 artists was one of the major attractions.
The programme provided a national platform for promoting Andhra Pradesh’s classical arts, tourism and cultural identity.
It also encouraged cultural exchange and national integration among different States and Union Territories.
