1. Union Budget 2026–27 Announces Key Support for Andhra Pradesh

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament on 1 February 2026.
The Budget provided approximately ₹3,320.39 crore for the Polavaram Irrigation Project, one of Andhra Pradesh’s most important multipurpose projects.
The Union Government proposed support of ₹5,000 crore over five years for developing the Visakhapatnam Economic Region under the National Growth Hub initiative.
Tourism-related proposals included the development of trekking trails in the Araku region and birdwatching trails around Pulicat Lake.
The Budget’s emphasis on data centres, cloud services, industrial corridors and port-led development was expected to support Andhra Pradesh’s digital and industrial growth.
A long-term tax incentive for eligible foreign companies providing global cloud services through Indian data centres was also expected to benefit the emerging data-centre ecosystem in Visakhapatnam.

2. Zero Excise Duty Announced on Unbranded Raw Tobacco

బ్రాండ్ లేని ముడి పొగాకుపై సున్నా ఎక్సైజ్ సుంకం

A revised excise-duty framework for tobacco products came into effect from 1 February 2026.
Unbranded and unpacked raw tobacco sold by farmers was placed under the zero excise-duty category.
Branded or retail-packed tobacco products continued to attract an applicable duty of 18%.
The change was expected to benefit tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh by reducing the tax burden on unprocessed agricultural produce.
Andhra Pradesh is one of India’s important tobacco-producing states, with major cultivation areas in Prakasam, Nellore, Bapatla, Palnadu and the Godavari region.
The distinction between raw farm produce and branded tobacco products was intended to protect cultivators while retaining taxation on commercially processed products.

3. Andhra Pradesh Sets Major Natural-Farming Expansion Target

In the first week of February 2026, the Andhra Pradesh government outlined a plan to make the State India’s largest natural-farming region within five years.
The State set a target of expanding natural farming to 50 lakh acres by 2030–31.
At the time of the announcement, approximately 18 lakh farmers were practising natural farming across nearly 20 lakh acres.
The government proposed increasing participation to around 40 lakh farmers through training, community organisations and market support.
A public-private partnership model was proposed for saffron cultivation in the Lambasingi region with the participation of tribal farmers.
The government also proposed the establishment of a 500-acre Cocoa City in Eluru to strengthen cocoa cultivation, processing, value addition and exports.

కోకో సాగు, ప్రాసెసింగ్, విలువ జోడింపు, ఎగుమతులను ప్రోత్సహించేందుకు ఏలూరులో 500 ఎకరాల కోకో సిటీని ఏర్పాటు చేయాలని ప్రతిపాదించారు.

4. Centre Reviews Tourism and Buddhist Heritage Projects in Andhra Pradesh

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ పర్యాటక, బౌద్ధ వారసత్వ ప్రాజెక్టులపై కేంద్రం సమీక్ష

In a parliamentary reply given on 2 February 2026, the Union Tourism Ministry presented the implementation status of major tourism projects in Andhra Pradesh.
The Shalihundam–Bavikonda–Bojjanakonda–Amaravati–Anupu Buddhist Circuit, sanctioned at ₹35.24 crore, was reported as physically complete.
Approximately ₹30.02 crore had been utilised for the Buddhist Circuit project.
The development of Borra Caves was being taken up with a sanctioned amount of approximately ₹29.88 crore.
Buddhist heritage development at Nagarjunasagar was being implemented with an approved value of ₹25 crore.
Tourism-development works at Simhachalam, Annavaram and other religious and heritage destinations were also at different stages of implementation.

5. AI4AP Police Pilot Launched in Three Districts

మూడు జిల్లాల్లో ఏఐ4ఏపీ పోలీస్ ప్రయోగాత్మక కార్యక్రమం

Andhra Pradesh Police launched the pilot phase of the AI4AP Police initiative on 4 February 2026.
The pilot programme was introduced in Chittoor, Guntur and Annamayya districts.
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said the artificial-intelligence tools would be integrated with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.
The platform is designed to assist police in analysing case records, preparing investigation documents, identifying patterns and improving evidence-based policing.
The pilot originated from the AI4 Andhra Police Hackathon, which had attracted participation from more than 200 innovators.
Based on pilot results, the system was proposed to be expanded across the State within approximately three to six months.

6. First National Women’s Ayurveda Conference Held in Visakhapatnam

విశాఖపట్నంలో తొలి జాతీయ మహిళా ఆయుర్వేద సదస్సు

The first national Women’s Ayurveda Conference, WAPCON 2026, was held in Visakhapatnam on 6 and 7 February 2026.
The conference took place at the Andhra University Convention Centre.
Its central theme was “Swastha Nari–Sashakta Bharat,” highlighting women’s health and the contribution of women professionals to Ayurveda.
Ayurveda doctors, researchers, students, entrepreneurs and policymakers from different parts of the country participated.
Discussions covered women’s wellness, maternal health, traditional medicine, research, education, entrepreneurship and the modern application of Ayurveda.
The event aimed to strengthen professional networks among women in the AYUSH and Ayurveda sectors.

7. Digital Attendance Introduced for Andhra Pradesh MLAs

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ఎమ్మెల్యేలకు డిజిటల్ హాజరు విధానం

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu approved a digital attendance system for MLAs on 10 February 2026.
The system was introduced from the Budget Session that began on 11 February 2026.
Attendance is digitally recorded to ensure that members remain accountable for their participation in Assembly proceedings.
The reform was intended to prevent members from merely signing the attendance register and leaving without taking part in the sitting.
Under constitutional provisions, a member who remains absent for 60 consecutive days without permission may face action from the House.
The Governor’s address is not treated as an ordinary sitting for calculating members’ attendance.

8. Andhra Pradesh School-Education Innovations Showcased at AI Conclave

Andhra Pradesh presented its technology-based school-education reforms at a national AI conclave held in New Delhi on 12 February 2026.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan appreciated several digital initiatives implemented in the State’s government schools.
The State showcased Personalised Adaptive Learning laboratories, classroom-response clickers and the Guaranteed Foundational Literacy and Numeracy programme.
Other initiatives included AI-enabled chatbots, facial-recognition attendance and technology-based monitoring of student learning.
A special Samagra Shiksha stall explained how data and artificial intelligence were being used to improve teaching and administrative efficiency.
Representatives from other states expressed interest in studying and replicating selected Andhra Pradesh education initiatives.

9. Four New Ports Under Construction in Andhra Pradesh

In a parliamentary update reported on 14 February 2026, the Union Government stated that four new ports were under construction in Andhra Pradesh.
The projects include Ramayapatnam Port, Machilipatnam Port, Mulapeta Port and the Kakinada Gateway Port project.
The new ports are intended to expand cargo-handling capacity and reduce pressure on the State’s existing ports.
Port development is expected to support industrial corridors, exports, fisheries, logistics and coastal economic activity.
Ramayapatnam and Mulapeta are particularly important for the southern and northern coastal regions of the State.
The projects were still under construction and should not be treated as fully operational ports as of February 2026.

10. Andhra Pradesh Budget 2026–27 Presented

ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ బడ్జెట్ 2026–27 ప్రవేశపెట్టడం

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav presented the Andhra Pradesh Budget 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly on 14 February 2026.
The total Budget outlay was approximately ₹3,32,205 crore, with revenue expenditure of around ₹2,56,143 crore and capital expenditure of about ₹53,915 crore.
The fiscal deficit was estimated at approximately ₹75,868 crore, equivalent to nearly 3.8% of GSDP.
The revenue deficit was projected at about ₹22,003 crore, or approximately 1.1% of GSDP.
The State’s Gross State Domestic Product for 2026–27 was projected at around ₹19.75 lakh crore, with an expected nominal growth rate of about 12%.
Important allocations included approximately ₹6,000 crore for Amaravati, ₹6,105 crore for Polavaram, nearly ₹13,934 crore for the energy sector and more than ₹9,900 crore for major irrigation.
Sectoral provisions included around ₹51,012 crore for Backward Classes, ₹20,644 crore for Scheduled Castes, ₹9,190 crore for Scheduled Tribes and ₹6,090 crore for minorities.
The government also announced an Andhra Pradesh Wealth Fund with an initial seed corpus of ₹100 crore to support long-term asset creation and development.

2026–27లో రాష్ట్ర స్థూల ఉత్పత్తి సుమారు ₹19.75 లక్షల కోట్లకు చేరుతుందని, నామమాత్ర వృద్ధి రేటు సుమారు 12 శాతం ఉంటుందని అంచనా వేశారు.
అమరావతికి సుమారు ₹6,000 కోట్లు, పోలవరానికి ₹6,105 కోట్లు, విద్యుత్ రంగానికి దాదాపు ₹13,934 కోట్లు, ప్రధాన సాగునీటి ప్రాజెక్టులకు ₹9,900 కోట్లకు పైగా కేటాయించారు.

President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the International Fleet Review 2026 off the Visakhapatnam coast on 18 February 2026.
Naval delegations and ships representing more than 70 countries participated in the international maritime event.
The theme of the review was “United Through Oceans.”
The President reviewed the fleet from INS Sumedha, which served as the Presidential Yacht.
The event demonstrated India’s maritime capabilities and strengthened cooperation among friendly navies.
It also reflected India’s broader vision of maritime security, stability and cooperation across the Indian Ocean and adjoining regions.

13. Multi-Speciality Hospitals Planned in 61 Constituencies

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced on 19 February 2026 that multi-speciality hospitals would be developed in 61 Assembly constituencies during the first phase.
The hospitals are proposed under a public-private partnership model.
Priority will be given to constituencies that lack adequate secondary and specialist healthcare facilities.
Critical-care blocks and improved diagnostic services will be included where necessary.
The government had received around 40 proposals for upgrading secondary hospitals, including facilities in Gannavaram, Kovur and Kovvur.
The initiative is intended to reduce the need for patients to travel to major cities for specialist treatment.

The Andhra Pradesh government and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology signed an agreement on 20 February 2026.
The agreement proposes India’s first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence University campus in Amaravati.
The institution will function within the NIELIT Deemed-to-be University ecosystem.
Proposed academic areas include quantum computing, quantum algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum communication and cybersecurity.
The campus is expected to offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes along with advanced research laboratories.
Plans also include industry-supported Centres of Excellence, startup incubation, high-performance computing and research in AI–quantum convergence.

During February 2026, the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department entered into a partnership with the International Innovation Corps under the University of Chicago Trust in India.
The partnership is intended to improve the implementation of the Dokka Seethamma Midday Meal Scheme.
The scheme covers approximately 32.3 lakh students studying in nearly 42,230 schools and educational institutions.
Artificial intelligence and data analytics will be used for programme monitoring, meal-quality assessment and identification of service gaps.
The initiative also aims to improve transparency, attendance-linked planning, supply-chain management and timely corrective action.
The partnership is expected to strengthen nutrition delivery and administrative efficiency without changing the scheme’s basic welfare objective.

16. BharatNet Agreement Signed for Rural Broadband Expansion

The Andhra Pradesh government and Digital Bharat Nidhi signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at Tadepalle on 22 February 2026.
The agreement aims to accelerate implementation of the Amended BharatNet Programme across the State.
Financial support of approximately ₹2,432 crore was approved for strengthening rural digital connectivity.
The programme will support last-mile broadband, 4G saturation, public Wi-Fi and affordable telecom services in rural areas.
Under earlier phases, 1,692 gram panchayats in Phase I and 11,254 gram panchayats in Phase II had been made service-ready.
The State government will support right-of-way permissions and local infrastructure required for faster network deployment.

17. Coastal Resilience Project Proposed for Visakhapatnam

A ₹203 crore coastal-resilience project for the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region was reported to be under consideration on 23 February 2026.
The project is intended to protect vulnerable coastal stretches from erosion, cyclones, storm surges and climate-related risks.
Approximately 90% of the proposed funding is expected from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, with the remaining 10% to be provided through the State disaster-management system.
RK Beach was identified as a high-risk location.
Pedajalaripeta, Mangamaripeta and Bheemunipatnam were among the moderate-risk coastal areas identified for intervention.
The project was awaiting necessary approval in February 2026 and should therefore be treated as a proposed initiative rather than a completed project.

18. Exercise MILAN 2026 Conducted in Visakhapatnam

The Indian Navy conducted the multinational maritime exercise MILAN 2026 in Visakhapatnam from 15 to 25 February 2026.
Naval delegations representing approximately 74 countries participated in different phases of the exercise.
The programme included professional conferences, harbour activities, operational demonstrations and sea-based exercises.
MILAN Village was opened on 16 February 2026 to showcase participating countries’ culture and maritime traditions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacted with naval leaders, including ASEAN representatives, during the exercise.
The closing programme was held aboard INS Vikrant on 25 February 2026, highlighting interoperability, maritime cooperation and collective security.

The State pavilion was established at Yashobhoomi to promote Andhra Pradesh among domestic and international tourism businesses.
Major attractions highlighted included the State’s coastline, Araku Valley, Gandikota, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Srisailam.
Tourism officials, tour operators and hospitality-sector representatives used the event to develop business partnerships.
The State promoted spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, adventure tourism, beach tourism and heritage destinations.
Participation in SATTE was aimed at attracting visitors, investments and national and international tourism collaborations.

20. Operation Chinnari-Thalli Launched for Child Safety

Andhra Pradesh Police launched Operation Chinnari-Thalli on 26 February 2026 to strengthen the protection of children from sexual offences.
The initiative was introduced by the Women and Child Safety Wing with the message “Safe Childhood for Sustainable Development.”
Police will identify habitual offenders, vulnerable locations and cases requiring urgent investigation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Sexual Offender Sheets will be opened for identified offenders involved in relevant crimes during the previous five years.
The programme aims to achieve zero pendency in arrests and ensure that charge sheets in POCSO cases are filed within 60 days.
Speed-trial monitoring, Good Touch–Bad Touch awareness programmes and coordination among police, schools, families and child-welfare institutions form part of the operation.
